Detective suspected in girl’s murder may have killed others, former investigator fears

NO BUT ACTUALLY THOUGH, A FINGERPRINT ON A COMMUNION PURSE JUST SOLVED A 65-YEAR-OLD MURDER CASE, WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE TO WRAP MY HEAD AROUND. SO BACK IN 1960, THIS YOUNG GIRL GLORIA KOWALEWICZ WAS WALKING TO CHURCH IN CHICAGO AND JUST NEVER MADE IT. POLICE NOW SAY THE GUY WHO ABDUCTED AND KILLED HER WAS ACTUALLY A DETECTIVE ON THE FORCE NAMED THOMAS MCINERNEY. THE MAN DIED IN 2006, SO HE NEVER FACED JUSTICE FOR IT WHILE HE WAS ALIVE, BUT NOW INVESTIGATORS ARE WORRIED HE MIGHT HAVE HAD OTHER VICTIMS BECAUSE HE WAS A VIOLENT CRIMES COP AT THE TIME. THEY ARE LINKING HIM TO THIS THROUGH RECENT TECHNOLOGY IMPROVEMENTS THAT FINALLY MATCHED HIS PRINTS. IT IS JUST TRAGIC AND DARK AND I CANNOT BELIEVE A COP WAS CAPABLE OF SOMETHING THIS HORRIFIC.

Chicago police identified the late detective Thomas McInerney as the man who murdered 8-year-old Gloria Kowalewicz in 1960, a discovery made via fingerprint evidence 65 years after the crime.
