'Misty Green' squanders its potential

THIS IS THE KIND OF THING THAT KEEPS ME UP, HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THIS YET, BECAUSE I JUST SAW NPR IS DRAGGING CHRIS ROCK’S NEW MOVIE MISTY GREEN. APPARENTLY HE IS TRYING TO CRITIQUE HOLLYWOOD AND HOW THEY TREAT BLACK WOMEN, WHICH IS A BIG SWING, BUT THE ARTICLE SAYS HE ENDED UP JUST PLAYING THIS MORALIZING SAVIOR CHARACTER THAT WE HAVE ALL SEEN A MILLION TIMES BEFORE. AND THE POOR LEAD ACTRESS ROSALIND ELEAZAR? THE REVIEW SAYS SHE GOT A TOTALLY HALF-BAKED ROLE IN THE PROCESS WHICH IS JUST A MESS. SO NOW IT SOUNDS LIKE IT FLOPPED ON THE EXECUTION DESPITE HAVING GOOD INTENTIONS OR WHATEVER. IT IS JUST A CLASSIC CASE OF SOMEONE MISSING THE MARK ON SOMETHING IMPORTANT. OK BUT WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF THAT WAS YOU?

NPR reports that Chris Rock's new film, Misty Green, fails to effectively critique Hollywood's treatment of Black women, offering a clichéd character for Rock and a weak role for Rosalind Eleazar.
