As monarch butterflies migrate for the fall, meet the Chicago woman trying to protect them

SO SOMEBODY FINALLY LOOKED INTO IT AND APPARENTLY CLAUDIA GALENO-SÁNCHEZ JUST STRAIGHT UP TURNED HER HOUSE IN CHICAGO INTO A GIANT BUTTERFLY HOTEL! LIKE, LITERALLY, SHE IS IN THE PILSEN NEIGHBORHOOD AND SHE DECIDED TO JUST PLANT NATIVE MILKWEED AND WILDFLOWERS ALL OVER HER YARD, WHICH IS WILD BECAUSE SHE IS HELPING THESE MONARCHS ON THEIR HUGE 3,000-MILE FLIGHT TO MEXICO! SHE WORKED WITH HECTOR DUARTE TO PAINT THE WHOLE HOUSE TO MATCH THE VIBE, AND NOW IT IS THIS WHOLE SANCTUARY THING. SHE SAID SHE DID NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT BEFORE BECOMING A MOM, BUT NOW SHE IS WORRIED ABOUT LOSING SPECIES AND THE WARMING PLANET, SO SHE IS DOING HER PART FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. HONESTLY, IT IS JUST SUPER WHOLESOME AND COOL TO SEE SOMEONE JUST DOING THE WORK. OK SOMEBODY ELSE TALK, MY THROAT HURTS.

Chicago resident Claudia Galeno-Sánchez has transformed her home into a sanctuary for migrating monarch butterflies by planting native milkweed and wildflowers to support their journey to Mexico.
