Layoffs haven’t been this low since the 1960s. It’s great if you have a job — but not if you don’t.

YOU KNOW WHAT IS ACTUALLY MENTAL, THE ECONOMISTS ARE TOTALLY FREAKING OUT BECAUSE LAYOFFS ARE AT THE LOWEST LEVEL SINCE THE 1960S WHICH SOUNDS GOOD BUT IS ACTUALLY A MAJOR PROBLEM IF YOU ARE UNEMPLOYED. APPARENTLY PEOPLE WITH JOBS ARE HOLDING ONTO THEM SO TIGHTLY THAT NOBODY IS HIRING NEW PEOPLE AND THE MARKET IS JUST STUCK IN THIS WEIRD HOLDING PATTERN. IT IS SUCH A STRANGE DYNAMIC BECAUSE ON THE ONE HAND YOU HAVE JOB SECURITY BUT ON THE OTHER HAND YOU CANNOT FIND A NEW ROLE EVEN IF YOU WANTED TO LEAVE YOURS. I AM TRYING TO LOOK AT THE DATA HERE BUT IT HONESTLY JUST FEELS LIKE A STAGNANT POOL OF CAPITAL AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY. ANYWAY REMEMBER I TOLD YOU FIRST.

MarketWatch reports that layoff rates are at their lowest point since the 1960s, creating job security for current employees but making it difficult for job seekers to find new positions.
