Brazil’s Problem Is Bigger Than Bolsonaro

SO THE OFFICIAL VERSION IS THIS AND LIKE I HAVE BEEN TELLING YOU, IT IS NOT JUST ABOUT THE GUY IN CHARGE BECAUSE BRAZIL IS APPARENTLY FERTILE GROUND FOR AUTHORITARIAN POLITICS NO MATTER WHO WINS THE ELECTION AND I AM TEARING MY HAIR OUT OVER THIS! THE NEW YORK TIMES IS OUT HERE SAYING THE PROBLEM IS ACTUALLY WAY BIGGER THAN BOLSONARO, WHICH IS WILD BECAUSE IT IMPLIES THE SYSTEM ITSELF IS JUST PRIMED FOR IT, SO NOW WE ARE LOOKING AT A COUNTRY WHERE THE POLITICAL VIBE IS TOTALLY RIGGED FOR STRONGMEN REGARDLESS OF THE BALLOT COUNT! IT IS NOT ABOUT ONE DUDE, IT IS ABOUT THE WHOLE FOUNDATION, AND HONESTLY, THE ARTICLE JUST LEAVES IT THERE, SO I DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. ANYWAY THAT IS THE STATE OF THINGS.

An opinion piece from The New York Times suggests that Brazil's political climate is inherently susceptible to authoritarianism, regardless of which specific candidate wins elections.
