Queen's University students blast off to US for Nasa robotics competition

SO THIS HAPPENED WHILE WE WERE IN HERE, FIFTY-TWO KILOGRAMS IS THE MADDEST NUMBER TO HEAR BECAUSE THAT IS HOW MUCH THIS ALUMINIUM ROBOT ROVER WEIGHS, AND A TEAM OF TEN QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY BELFAST STUDENTS BUILT IT IN A LAB AND ARE NOW HEADING TO FLORIDA FOR A NASA LUNABOTICS COMPETITION, WHICH IS WILD BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONLY EUROPEAN TEAM IN THE ENTIRE THING AND HAVE TO GO UP AGAINST TEAMS FROM INDIA, AUSTRALIA AND THE US, AND THE THING IS THE ROVER HAS TO OPERATE TOTALLY AUTONOMOUSLY IN A LUNAR-SIMULATED ROOM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA, WHICH MEANS IT HAS TO DRIVE OVER OBSTACLES, DIG UP SAND SIMULANT, AND DEPOSIT IT TO BUILD A WALL FOR FUTURE HUMAN MOON BASES. A team of ten students from Queen's University Belfast will compete in a NASA robotics competition in Florida with their 52-kilogram autonomous lunar rover.
