As former athletes, some Senators have extra say on the college sports reform bill

HONESTLY I CANNOT DEAL WITH THIS ONE BECAUSE LISTEN TO ME THERE ARE ACTUAL SITTING SENATORS WHO USED TO BE COLLEGE ATHLETES THEMSELVES AND NOW THEY PERSONALLY GET A MAJOR SAY IN THIS WHOLE FIGHT, WHICH IS WILD BECAUSE THE SENATE IS ACTIVELY CONSIDERING A MASSIVE COLLEGE SPORTS REFORM BILL AND THE NCAA ALONG WITH A BUNCH OF OTHER POWERFUL STAKEHOLDERS HAVE BEEN HEAVILY LOBBYING FOR IT, SO NOW THESE FORMER ATHLETE LAWMAKERS SUDDENLY HAVE AN ENORMOUS INFLUENCE OVER THE ENTIRE DEBATE AND THE THING IS NOBODY KNOWS HOW THE VOTE IS GOING TO SHAKE OUT YET, JUST THAT THEIR PERSONAL PLAYING DAYS ARE GIVING THEM EXTRA POWER OVER WHAT HAPPENS TO THE WHOLE SYSTEM. ANYWAY YOU WILL SEE IT ON YOUR PHONE IN AN HOUR.

As the Senate considers a college sports reform bill lobbied for by the NCAA, lawmakers who were former college athletes are playing a major role in the debate.
